XHHW-2 is a single-conductor building wire designed for harsh environments, including wastewater treatment plants, cogeneration power plants, and the pulp and paper industry, due to its protective insulation.

It also works well in low-voltage power and control applications, indoor and outdoor locations, raceways, aerial installations, and underground ducts.

XHHW-2 has an operational temperature range of –40°C to 90°C in wet locations and -40°C to 105°C in dry locations.

Standard Products

  • Sizes #14 AWG through 500 MCM
  • Solid or 7-strand bare copper are standard, optional stranding configurations include 19 and 37-strand
  • Up to 12 color options
  • XLP insulation is standard

KrisTech’s XHHW-2 wire meets the following standards and tests, including:

  • ASTM B-1, B-3, B-8, B-33, and B-174
  • UL 44
  • NEC NFPA 70, NEC 310, NEC 517.160
  • FED SPEC A-A-59544
  • Manufactured to comply with National Electric Code (NEC) Article 310

  • Conductors – Single conductors are available in solid or stranded configurations, and either annealed or hardened. Tin-coated copper conductors are also available.
  • Insulation – Conductors are insulated with a concentrically applied XLPE (crosslinked polyethylene) that is FT2 flame and “Oil and Gasoline Resistant I” rated. An optional VW-1 flame rating is available on request. A CT (FT4) rating in sizes #1/0 and larger is also available on request. All black insulation is rated “Sunlight Resistant.” All colored insulation is rated “Sunlight Resistant” in sizes #6 AWG and larger, and optional in sizes #8 AWG and smaller.

Print legends on the wire include the manufacturer, conductor size, voltage rating, UL symbol (if applicable), and type designation. Standard length spools are 500 or 2,500 feet.
