Appliance Wiring Material (AWM)

Description
Appliance Wiring Material (AWM) consists of stranded, soft annealed copper conductors insulated with Polyvinylchloride (PVC). Constructions may be solid or stranded and are available in 1000 V (1kV) ratings.

Canadian Standards Association (CSA) listed AWM-IA (Class I Group A) and TEW products are 600 V FT-1 rated. All our standard products are compliant and multi-listed as types TW, THW, MTW, TEW, and the applicable AWM Style Number.

Application
Type AWM is most often found in general purpose wiring circuits, for machine tool wiring and the internal wiring of appliances, such as control panels, wiring for refrigeration equipment, air-conditioning equipment, control wiring of machine tools, automatic washers, etc. Its intended uses are limited to dry locations at temperatures not to exceed 105°C (applicable to both UL and CSA ratings). Our standard circuit size (#10, 12, 14 awg) products are marked Style 1015. Larger products are marked AWM 1028 or 1283.

The governing standard for application of these products is the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Publication #79.
