Kris-Tech Wire is happy to introduce the newest team member of the sales team, Jon Compas! Jon is tasked with business development in the Southwestern states. His territory will cover the following states: Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.

Jon’s area of focus will be finding NEW opportunities in this region, while also empowering existing customers with the Kris-Tech values and exceptional customer service. The role encompasses all areas of the sale process, from initial request to delivery, all while maintaining Kris-Tech’s hedgehog concept to grow our customer base.

We had the opportunity to sit down with Jon and get to know him a little better and we are excited to share this interview with our valued Kris-Tech customers.

We’re excited to welcome you to the Kris-Tech team! Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I come from fuel distribution. My job was to find arbitrages in the market and sell through contracts with the refineries. I sold gasoline, diesel fuel, and jet fuel to resellers, other distributions, and end-users. Once upon a time, I served as President of a helicopter transportation business. Most recently, I managed a sales team at a startup company in Dallas. I enjoy developing business because I learn a great deal from business owners, and I find the challenge to be irresistible. I am a graduate of UC Davis and the University of San Diego.

Although you have an extensive background in sales, you are joining us from outside the wire industry. What are you most excited about in this exciting career shift?

The outlook for copper is very good. As the world develops and electrification occurs, there is a big opportunity for Kris-Tech. My job is to find those opportunities. I am proud to work for a business that manufactures in the USA.

Your customers may not know this about you-you spent several seasons playing professional football in the NFL. What lessons from your time on the field do you bring into the business world?

I have learned that commitment to mastery, combined with hard work and strategic thinking, results in success. In football, you watch the game tape, make the corrections, and retake the field. In business, the game tape might be your P&L statement, cash conversion cycle, or conversation with the customer. Whether football or business, focus, and execution determine the results. At the same time, I have found that business – just like in football – comes down to the people. A former coach of mine, Rich Bisaccia, who is the Assistant Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders and someone I really admire, used to say: “It’s not the X’s and the O’s, it’s the Willies and the Joes.” While Kris-Tech is a proven business, the Kris-Tech roster is made up of great people across the board.

You have been tasked with growing and developing the Southwest region. What locations are you planning to visit first to develop and grow your customer base?

I will visit pre-existing customers in Southern California and Arizona to determine how we can grow our businesses together. Thereafter, I will zero in on future customers in New Mexico and Texas who appreciate partnership.

You have personally spent a lot of time in So Cal while completing your master’s degree at the University of San Diego School of Business. What are some of your favorite things about this region of the country?

I love the ocean. I love the weather. Check out the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, California.

What most excites you about joining the Kris-Tech team?

I’m excited to work for a longstanding, closely-held business that is growing year over year. That Kris-Tech built a new manufacturing facility demonstrates the company’s commitment to continued growth; the manufacturing team in Rome, New York works 24-7-365, to tailor-make wire for our customers. I’m also excited to join a culture of teamwork, inclusion, and communication. While many companies showcase such values on a poster, Kris-Tech puts these values into action. Most of all, I’m excited to work with genuine, talented people. Jeff, Travis, and Graham were great in our early discussions. I’ve also enjoyed getting to know the sales team, operations team, and administrative staff. I look forward to contributing to the team.

When you are not traveling between Kris-Tech customer calls or watching Sunday football, how do you like to spend your free time?

I have found that strenuous exercise in the morning enhances my focus and sets the tone for the day. I’m a member of US Masters Swimming, and I enjoy doing pushups and planks. I also enjoy recreational reading.

What else can you share about yourself with our Kris-Tech Customers?

I feel very fortunate to have forged partnerships with great customers who are fair, astute businesspeople. On behalf of Kris-Tech, I look forward to providing you with the detail-orientation and responsiveness that your business requires. If you require copper wire, please contact me at JON@kristechwire.com.

As Kris-Tech continues its Commitment to Excellence, we strive for excellence in everything that we do: service, quality, and relationships. We believe this addition to our Sales Team allows us to deliver on this commitment.

Join us in welcoming Jon to the team!
