MTW / AWM / TEW Wire

MTW / AWM / TEW Wire

Machine tool wire, also known as appliance wiring material (AWM) or thermoplastic equipment wire (TEW), is used for general purpose wiring, machine tools, air conditioning equipment, appliances, and control cabinets and circuits.

1000 V Maximum Voltage

MTW/TEW

Machine Tool Wire (MTW) consists of stranded, soft annealed copper conductors insulated with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and is UL-rated for 600 V. Gauge sizes of #10-14 AWG are 19 strands; all others have “highly flexible” stranding constructions.

Type MTW/TEW is commonly used in general-purpose wiring circuits, machine tool wiring, and the internal wiring of appliances, such as control panels, refrigeration equipment, air conditioning equipment, control wiring for machine tools, and automatic washers.

AWM

Appliance Wiring Material (AWM) consists of either solid or stranded, soft annealed copper conductors insulated with polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and is rated for 1000 V (1kV).

MTW/TEW wire can be used in wet or dry locations up to 105°C. When exposed to oil or coolant, the wire is rated for 60°C. CSA Type TEW rating permits use in dry locations up to 105°C or wet locations. When the wire is exposed to oil or coolant, it is rated for 60°C.

AWM wire use is limited to dry locations at temperatures up to 105°C (applicable to both UL and CSA ratings).

Configurations

Our standard circuit size (#10-14 AWG) products are marked Style 1015. Larger products are marked AWM 1028 or 1283. The governing standard for the application of these products is the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Publication #79.

All our standard products are compliant and multi-listed as types TW, THW, MTW, TEW, and the applicable AWM style number. Canadian Standards Association (CSA) listed AWM-IA (Class I Group A) and TEW products are 600 V FT-1 rated.

KrisTech’s MTW/TEW/AWM wire meets the following standards and tests, including:

  • ASTM B-1, B-3, B-8, B-33, and B-173
  • UL 758
  • NFPA 70/NEC 310
  • CSA C22.2

  • Conductors – Single conductors are stranded, annealed, tin coated or uncoated copper.
  • Insulation – Conductors are insulated with a concentrically applied PVC (polyvinyl chloride).

Print legends on the wire include the manufacturer, conductor size, voltage rating, UL symbol (if applicable) and type designation. Standard length spools are 500 or 2,500 feet.
