KrisTech offers a comprehensive line of wire and cable products engineered for performance and reliability across every application.
Covered Line Wire
Covered line wire is used in secondary distribution lines, which carry less voltage than primary distribution lines. The HMWPE insulation surrounding the copper conductor is not considered electrical insulation, though it protects the conductor from potential faults caused by weather, vibrations, and crossed leads.
Feature Quick View:
Covered line wire can be used as an insulated transformer wire but is typically used in secondary distribution. It must be treated as a bare conductor during installation because its HMWPE insulation is not considered electrical insulation.
Despite HMWPE not being an electrical insulation, it protects the wire from corrosion, oxidation, and other damage. It is also abrasion and chemical resistant, making it a suitable choice for use in outdoor and wet environments.
Standard Products
- #8 AWG through 500 MCM
- Solid copper or stranded (7, 19 or 37-strand) conductors
- Sunlight resistant polyethylene (PE) or crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE)
- Long-length bulk reels
KrisTech’s covered line wire meets the following standards and tests, including:
- ASTM B1, B3 and B8
- CSA 68.9
- ICEA S-95-658/NEMA WC70
- Conductors – This single conductor wire is available in solid or stranded, annealed or hardened uncoated copper configurations.
- Insulation – Conductors are insulated with a concentrically applied LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) that is Type I, Class A, Cat 5 and Grades E4-E5 rated. An optional Type II, III, IV (MDPE and HDPE) insulation is available on request. An optional XLPE (crosslinked polyethylene) insulation is also available upon request.
