This stranded stainless steel single conductor tracer wire is insulated with high molecular weight polyethylene (HMWPE) and is suitable for directional drilling applications. It can also be used as a standard locating wire for tracing underground utilities and assets, including non-metallic pipes and cables.

KrisTech’s stainless steel tracer wire can be used for locating underground assets, including cables or pipes. Use this cable for applications where high tensile strength and the ability to carry an electronic signal are both critical.

Typically, a frequency generator is connected directly to the tracer wire, and a high or low frequency signal is applied. In the passive method, power voltages are sometimes applied at a frequency of 50-60 Hz.

Stainless steel tracer wire is intended for severe applications, such as directional drilling, where standard copper tracer wire has insufficient mechanical and/or breaking strength properties. Stainless Steel locating wire is highly flexible and has high tensile strength.

Added HMWPE insulation provides excellent abrasion, crush, chemical, and moisture resistance. Both 30 V and 600 V versions are suitable for safe use at temperatures as high as 75°C in wet and dry locations.

KrisTech’s stainless steel tracer wire meets the following standards and tests, including:

  • COMMERCIAL SPECIFICATION SD 117
  • ICEA S-70-547 AND S-95-658/NEMA WC70

  • Conductors – Single conductors are 49 (7×7) stranded annealed type 304 alloy stainless steel.
  • Insulation – Conductors are insulated with a concentrically applied HDPE (high-density polyethylene).

Print legends on the wire include the manufacturer, conductor size, voltage rating, UL symbol (if applicable) and type designation. Standard length spools are 500 or 2,500 feet.
