KrisTech Receives Anniversary Award from Make-A-Wish Central New York

Since 1980, Make-A-Wish has granted wishes for more than 650,000 children with critical illnesses, including those in Central New York and the Mohawk Valley. 

From trips to Disneyland and meeting John Cena to becoming a superhero, football player, or police officer, local chapter members and a cavalcade of volunteers often orchestrate these once-in-a-lifetime moments. And for five years, KrisTech has proudly supported the nonprofit’s mission and vision, donating money and time to bring some light to tough situations. 

Recently, Make-A-Wish Central New York shared its appreciation for our ongoing partnership by awarding KrisTech with the Anniversary Award. The honor marks 40 years of Make-A-Wish granting wishes for children in Central New York and the Mohawk Valley and highlights the ongoing relationship between KrisTech and the international nonprofit organization. 

“Being recognized by Make-A-Wish Central New York means a great deal to us, but the truth is the honor has always been ours,” KrisTech's Director of Employee Engagement, Wendy Calabrese, explained. “When you hear about a child who's facing something that no kid should have to face, and you realize that a wish — a real, tangible moment of joy — is within reach, you don't hesitate. You show up. Our team has embraced this partnership wholeheartedly for five years now, and that says everything about who we are.”

The Need Never Stops

But the recognition also comes with a sense of duty, as it illustrates the continued impact organizations like Make-A-Wish have in our community. Last year, volunteers in the Mohawk Valley helped make 15 wishes come true. But the need is always there, as another 24 kids are still waiting for the same joy. 

“Twenty-four children are still waiting. That number stays with you,” Calabrese said. “It reminds us that this work isn't finished, and that a partnership like this isn’t something you celebrate once and set aside. It has to be something you keep choosing, year after year. We're committed to doing our part, and we hope others in the Mohawk Valley join us.” 

So, what can the community do to get involved? Make-A- Wish Central New York is always seeking volunteers to help grant wishes. There are also many opportunities to pitch in to raise funds, including hosting workplace events, sponsorships, and attending local philanthropic events throughout the Mohawk Valley.
