Ground Wire

Ground wire, also sometimes called earth wire or earthing wire, is an intentionally grounded wire that completes a circuit if the neutral wire fails. This insulated conductor is rated for 600 V and creates an electrical path of resistance to safely conduct electrical currents back to the ground.

In the U.S., ground wire conductors may be bare copper or insulated with green, green/yellow, or black polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or high molecular weight polyethylene (HMWPE). The insulation provides a cost-effective way to protect the conductor from potential weather and abrasion threats.

KrisTech’s PE/PVC ground wire meets the following standards and tests, including:

  • ASTM B-1, B-3, and B-8
  • NFPA 70/NEC Article 800

  • Conductors – Single conductors are available in solid or stranded, annealed or hardened, tin coated or uncoated copper configurations.
  • Insulation – Conductors are insulated with a concentrically applied green or black HMWPE (high molecular weight polyethylene), or green or tan PVC (polyvinyl chloride).
