Kris-Tech recently donated 16,000 feet of custom cable to two non-profit organizations. Both groups share a mission to distribute water purification systems to drought-stricken areas across the world.

The efforts of South Carolina-based Water Missions International (WMI) can be seen in Belize, Indonesia, Mexico, Uganda, and Haiti. WMI has also been active in Kenya for years and has a presence in all regions of the country. Much of the area suffers from widespread poverty and scarce clean water sources, especially in its vast Somali refugee camps, which host hundreds of thousands of people.

Similarly, New Life International is an Indiana-based organization that has provided water purification systems around the world since 1998. To help meet global water crises, NLI founder Duvon McGuire invented and patented a simple water purifier that uses common table salt and a 12-volt battery to create water-purifying chlorine. Over the past 14 years, more than 2,500 of these water purifiers have been built in 77 countries around the world.

Kris-Tech was pleased to play a small role in the generosity of both organizations. In concert with Multi Contact USA, we donated 6,000 feet of insulated copper wire to WMI’s Kenya operations where it will be used to connect compact water treatment systems to solar power generators. WMI’s water purifiers treat 10 gallons of water per minute. By using solar power rather than diesel generators to affect this, the operating costs fall from $3 per 1,000 gallons to less than $.75 per 1,000 gallons.

Working directly with New Life International, Kris-Tech designed and manufactured a custom 2-conductor wire with a PVC jacket and donated 10,000 feet of the material to the group. FedEx Corporation donated cargo transport for both efforts. Though a world away, victims of drought will benefit from the local charity of groups like WMI and NLI and their partners.
