Transformer Riser Wire

Transformer riser wire is used in uninsulated transformer wire applications up to 35kV. The HMWPE insulation surrounding the copper conductor is not electrical insulation, but protects the wire from faults caused by weather, vibrations, and crossed leads.

Although its HMWPE insulation should not treated as an insulation, the covering on transformer riser wire does reduce faults caused by atmospheric conditions, shorts caused by excessive vibrations, and faulting caused by objects crossing the leads.

KrisTech’s transformer riser wire meets the following standards and tests, including:

ASTM B-1, B-3, and B-8
CSA C68.9
ICEA S-95-658 / NEMA WC 70

Conductors – Single conductors are available in solid or stranded and annealed or hardened uncoated copper configurations.
Insulation – Conductors are covered with a concentrically applied LLDPE (linear low-density polyethylene) that is Type I, Class A, Cat 5 and Grades E4-E5 rated. An optional Type II, III, IV (MDPE and HDPE) insulation is available on request. Optional XLPE (crosslinked polyethylene) insulation is also available upon request.

Print legends on the wire include the manufacturer, conductor size, voltage rating, UL symbol (if applicable) and type designation. Standard length spools are 500 or 2,500 feet.
