The Letter L

Lay
Pertaining to wire and cable, the distance required for one cabled strand to complete one revolution around the center wire of a stranded conductor.

Lay Direction
The twist in the cable as indicated by the top strands while looking along the axis of the cable away from the observer. Described as "right hand" or "left hand."


Leakage Current
An undesirable flow of current through or over the surface of an insulating material.

Length of Lay
The axial length of one turn of the helix of a wire or member.
