Directional Drilling CCS Tracer Wire
Directional Drilling Copper-Clad Steel (CCS) Tracer Wire is a solid steel core conductor with a concentrically clad copper coating and insulated with a high molecular weight polyethylene (HMWPE). The copper cladding measures 3% of the conductor diameter and has a total conductivity of IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard). This product is manufactured according to Underwriters Laboratory (UL) constructions in both 30 V and 600 V, suitable for use at a maximum continuous operating temperature of 75°C in wet and dry conditions.
Our tracer/locator wire can be used in the conductive methods of underground locating of a buried cable or pipe.
Typically, a frequency generator is connected directly to the cable you want to trace, and a high or low frequency signal is applied. In the passive method, power voltages are sometimes applied at a frequency of 50-60 Hz.
The higher tensile (breaking) strength provided by CCS makes it an excellent alternative in directional boring applications.
Copper-Clad Steel combines the high strength of steel with the electrical or corrosion-resistant properties of copper. It’s lower weight and higher strength than copper, but the steel core makes it much less ductile (user friendly) than copper. Steel has a tendancy to remain stiff and have a memory, which tends to make field installation more difficult. HMWPE is a rugged, durable material considered excellent for moisture and abrasion resistance.
If you need it, CCS is stronger than our regular tracer wire, and also holds up well in moist or corrosive places, perfect for Directional Drilling jobs.
